The Prophets - Idris (Enoch) Alaihi AlSalam

Idris - peace be upon him -

One of the descendants of the Prophet Seth peace be upon him

It is known in ancient books as "Enoch", and its lineage is due to Seth bin Adam, peace be upon them, and its full lineage as reported by Ibn Ishaq and other imams of lineage: "Idris bin Burd bin Muhalil bin Qanin bin Yanch bin Seth bin Adam - peace be upon them

It was said that he was sent before prophet Noah - peace be upon him - and God sent down to his Prophet Idris, peace be upon him, thirty holy papers, and it was said that he was called "Idris" because of his frequent study of the Book of God Almighty.

He unanimously warned his people not to mix with Qabil's descendants, but they disobeyed him and interacted with them, and this caused many of them to slip away from the path of righteousness.

Like the rest of the prophets, he called his people to worship Allah alone and to do righteous deeds to save themselves from punishment. He informed people about the creation and the signs of Allah in the universe, teaching them knowledge, literature, and wisdom.

It is reported that he was the first to write with the pen, the first to sew clothes and wear them, and the first to study astronomy and mathematics. He learned the science of astronomy and used it to understand the movement of planets, predicting forthcoming floods. He was the first to teach people the sciences of medicine, writing, and he was knowledgeable in various fields such as agriculture, city planning, and construction of houses.

It is said that he lived in Babylon, but he was persecuted by its people, so he prayed to his Lord to send him to a land similar to it. Allah revealed to him to go to Egypt, where he became a ruler.

It is said that Idris (peace be upon him) was the first to build the pyramids and he deposited various sciences in them, fearing their loss. These pyramids were said to be his and his grandfather Sheeth's graves, and he was also the first to build houses of worship in Egypt.

Idris (peace be upon him) is mentioned twice in the Quran. In Surah Al-Anbiya, Allah says, "And ˹remember˺ Ishmael, Enoch, and Ⱬul-Kifl.1 They were all steadfast. We admitted them into Our mercy, for they were truly of the righteous." Allah described Idris, Isma'il, and Dhul-Kifl as patient and admitted them into His mercy, which refers to His blessings in the hereafter or prophethood, because they were righteous and far from corruption.

Idris is also mentioned in Surah Maryam, where Allah says, "And mention in the Book ˹O Prophet, the story of˺ Enoch. He was surely a man of truth and a prophet. And We elevated him to an honourable status." In these verses, Allah shows that Idris was truthful in his actions and words and believed in the signs of Allah.

The story of Idris's ascension has various interpretations among interpreters. It is confirmed by the Prophet Mohd (peace be upon him) that he saw Idris in the fourth heaven during the isra and miraj event. He said, "When I reached Idris, he said, 'This is Idris, so convey greetings to him.' I greeted him and he returned the greeting. Then he said, 'Welcome to the righteous brother and the righteous prophet.'"

According to Jewish traditions, a friend of Idris from among the angels carried him between his wings and ascended with him to the heavens after Idris asked him to do so. When he reached the fourth heaven, he met the Angel of Death, who took his soul there, as he was ordered to take his soul in the fourth heaven. Thus, he is the only human who passed away in the heavens.

According to the Gospels, it is mentioned that he lived for 365 years.
